A Light to the Nations
I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. (Is 49:6b)
As we move through Holy Week toward the Sacred Triduum, The book of Isaiah describes the Suffering Servant who will be a light to the nations; his faithfulness will radiate the glory and salvation of God to all the nations. Jesus is that Servant and through his Passion, death and Resurrection will bring salvation to the ends of the earth. In the face of the world's uncertainty, let us bear in mind that these dark days of pain and suffering, denial and betrayal will ultimately end in glory and new life.
May your protection, O Lord, we pray, defend the humble and keep ever safe those who trust in your mercy that they may celebrate the paschal festivities not only with bodily observance but above all with purity of mind. Through Christ our Lord. (Roman Missal, Monday Holy Week, Prayer over people)
