An Awesome Responsibility
They left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. Mark 1:20
Yesterday, we celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord which reminded us of our own baptismal responsibility, to be a sharer of the Good News. Today, we see how Simon, Andrew, James and John respond to Jesus’ call. They abandoned their boats and nets—their livelihoods, and followed Jesus. By their example, we should be inspired to cast away all things that hold us back from faithful discipleship. Living as a disciple also necessitates a commitment to share in the work of evangelization when the opportunity presents itself. In his Encyclical, Redemptoris Missio, St. John Paul II wrote: Today, as never before, the Church has the opportunity of bringing the Gospel, by witness and word, to all people and nations. I see the dawning of a new missionary age, which will become a radiant day bearing an abundant harvest, if all Christians respond with generosity to the call and challenge of our times (Redemptoris Missio, No. 92). So, if not NOW then WHEN? There is no bad time to share God’s love and joy. It’s never too late to start witnessing for Christ.
+ In what way can I speak about what I’ve personally experienced of Christ?
Dear Lord, You said: “do not be afraid,'' please give me the strength and courage I need to give witness to the Gospel and share my faith with others wherever I am today.
O Blessed Mother Mary, you brought the Good News to your cousin Elizabeth, help me to bring the Good News of your Son to others. Hail Mary full of grace…
Peace In Christ,
